Etihad Airways has made significant changes to its Greenliner aircraft to prove the concept of making air travel more sustainable and a lot more carbon efficient.

At the recent COP27 meeting, people rightfully criticized hundreds of officials arriving on private jets to tell the rest of the world that they need to fly less. But Etihad took it upon themselves to show that it’s possible to plan emissions-free flights.

CNN has reported why air travel is such an important thing to get under control.
statement
“Commercial aviation accounted for just over 2% of global CO2 emissions in 2021, which suggests it may be a modest contributor to climate change. But the number doesn't tell the whole story, as air travel affects the climate in more complex ways than just carbon emissions, and its impact is predicted to rise in the future, as more and more people will want to fly.”

What the Greenliner will run on is sustainable aviation fuel that is made from waste products. And estimates show that it can curb emissions by up to 80%, with the remainder offset by carbon credits and investing in certain CO2-positive emissions.

While we are still a long way away from fueling all air traffic with such sustainable fuel, this is an important message sent and at the right time.
